Even without a recognised centre-forward, this Atleti side continues to fire on all cylinders. Much of the credit belongs to Alex Baena, who has been playing in a different gear since the World Cup. The midfielder put in a flawless performance against Sevilla, dictating the tempo of the contest at will. Constantly involved in the build-up and lethal inside the box, he netted a brace set up by Pablo Barrios and Kang-In Lee. Ademola Lookman also got on the scoresheet, although he later had another strike ruled out. Completely outplayed before the interval, the Andalusian side only managed to breach the opposition lines in the second half, courtesy of a fine volley from Miguel Sierra.

Sevilla: A first defeat of the season for the 'Hispalenses', and a fully deserved one after an apathetic opening 45 minutes. The hosts came under relentless pressure, shipping three goals in a spell where the damage could have been far heavier. After the restart, they altered their approach to show far greater fight and purpose. The bright spark was academy gem Miguel Sierra, the game's standout revelation who looks set to become a vital asset for Luis Garcia.

Atletico de Madrid: The 'Colchoneros' delivered an attacking clinic during a devastating first half. They could easily have had four or five, but settled for three. Baena orchestrated every move, producing by some distance his finest display in an Atleti shirt. What confidence can do: clinical in his execution, he effortlessly stepped into the role usually occupied by Griezmann. Pablo Barrios was equally outstanding — thriving with total freedom — alongside the inventive Kang-In Lee. The trio ran the show before managing their energy levels with the three points firmly in the bag.
