Ferland Mendy is back in the fold. Having successfully recovered from a hamstring injury, the French full-back has been named in the Real Madrid squad for Friday's encounter with Girona. His inclusion is the headline news from Alvaro Arbeloa, who appears to be rotating his resources ahead of the crucial Champions League return leg against Bayern.

Joining Mendy in the squad are Daniel Yanez and Manuel Angel, while there is a landmark first senior call-up for Jesus Fortea. The teenage right-back is regarded as one of the crown jewels of La Fabrica and has been knocking on the door of the first team after flourishing under Arbeloa's tutelage in the Juvenil A setup.

Fortea's promotion comes as Trent Alexander-Arnold is granted a breather. After starting the first leg against Bayern Munich, the England international has been omitted to manage his workload. Similarly, Antonio Rudiger is also rested as he follows a tailored fitness programme to ensure he reaches peak condition for the season's climax.

Long-term absentees Thibaut Courtois and Rodrygo remain unavailable. The Belgian goalkeeper is still nursing a quadriceps injury, while the Brazilian forward continues his lengthy rehabilitation from a ruptured ACL and meniscus. Neither player has yet rejoined full first-team training.
