Atletico Madrid bolstered their offensive options on Saturday with the high-profile capture of South Korea international winger Kang-in Lee.

The 25-year-old arrives from PSG, where he has plied his trade since 2023, on a contract running until 2031. The transfer is understood to be worth an initial €35 million, with a further €5 million potentially due in performance-related add-ons.

Lee becomes the third arrival of a busy summer for the capital club, following in the footsteps of Spain international left-back Alejandro Grimaldo from Bayer Leverkusen and Danish midfielder Morten Hjulmand from Sporting CP. Grimaldo has committed to the club until 2030, while Hjulmand has also signed until 2031.

Meanwhile, Atletico remain in negotiations to secure a permanent deal for Argentina's Nico Gonzalez following the expiration of his season-long loan from Juventus. Atletico Madrid have yet to trigger his €32 million purchase option, as they hope to broker a significantly lower fee.

These arrivals follow the high-profile departures of all-time record goalscorer Antoine Griezmann, who has joined Orlando City, and French defender Clement Lenglet, who has moved to Benfica.

"A gifted 25-year-old left-footed midfielder capable of operating as a playmaker or across either flank, distinguished by his vision, technical mastery, expansive passing range, and clinical finishing," Atletico Madrid noted in their official club statement.

Born in Incheon, South Korea, Lee moved to Spain to join Valencia's youth academy at the age of ten, rising through the ranks before handed his senior debut on 30 October 2018.

He remained at Mestalla until 2021, making 62 appearances, before moving to Mallorca. It was there, under the guidance of Javier Aguirre, that he revitalised his career; 73 appearances across two seasons yielded seven goals and 12 assists, prompting a €22 million switch to PSG in the summer of 2023.

After registering 16 goals and 16 assists in 124 matches in Paris - starting 69 of those fixtures - and earning 50 caps for South Korea, Lee now returns to La Liga. He will link up with his new teammates for pre-season following his involvement in the 2026 World Cup, where South Korea were eliminated in the group stage.
