For both veterans, this tournament represents the final chapter of their remarkable international careers. Modric is playing in his fifth World Cup, while Ronaldo is featuring in his sixth, with both knowing this is their last opportunity to lift football's most coveted trophy.

Modric has made 22 World Cup appearances, scoring two goals and providing two assists. Luka Modric, with six UEFA Champions League titles, and Cristiano Ronaldo, with five, rank among the most decorated players in the competition's history. Four of those triumphs came while they formed a formidable partnership in a Real Madrid side packed with world-class talent.

Both played pivotal roles in the team that lifted 'La Decima' in the 2013/14 season, ending Real Madrid's long wait for a tenth European crown after years of falling short following their ninth title.
