Four months after his move to the Balearic Islands, Torre's transfer has sparked controversy — not with Mallorca, but with his former club, Barcelona. On Monday, Racing claimed that the Catalan giants acted in "bad faith" during the negotiations.

According to Racing, Barcelona agreed to sell the 22-year-old midfielder for €4.95 million, narrowly missing the financial threshold in their 2022 agreement. That deal stipulated that Racing would receive a percentage of any capital gain if his subsequent transfer exceeded a set amount.

Racing argue that Barcelona had previously valued Torre at €10 million and accuse the club of deliberately undervaluing the sale to avoid paying the Cantabrian side their share of the profit.

Racing president Manuel Higuera made the announcement at the club's General Shareholders' Meeting. He insisted that the deal was "structured to avoid paying Racing and, consequently, deprives us of what is rightfully ours."

Higuera, however, stressed that the club is not seeking "any confrontation" with Barcelona, but merely aims to secure what "rightfully belongs" to them.

Torre, who spent three seasons at Barcelona, including a loan spell at Girona in his second year, moved permanently to Mallorca this summer in search of regular first-team football.

In four months on the island, he has amassed 778 minutes — surpassing the 759 minutes he played across two seasons with Barcelona's first team — and contributed three assists.
