Lewandowski continues to make history with FC Barcelona, this time etching his name into the annals of the Champions League, a competition in which he is the third-highest goalscorer of all time.

The Pole was once again decisive, scoring a brace in the ‘Cules’ 7-2 demolition of Newcastle, becoming the player to have scored against the most different teams in the Champions League, with a total of 41 victims in 72 appearances to date.

As a result, the former Bayern Munich star has overtaken Lionel Messi, who scored against 40 different opponents in 82 appearances before retiring from European football and moving to the MLS.

Furthermore, the Barcelona forward became the oldest player to score a brace at 37 and a half years of age, surpassing Inzaghi and Cristiano Ronaldo, who also achieved the feat at 37 years and 2 months and 36 and a half years respectively.

In fact, the Polish striker missed a clear chance against the Magpies to seal his hat-trick, which would also have made him the oldest player to score a hat-trick in the Champions League, leaving Karim Benzema behind, who achieved the feat at the age of 34 years and 3 months.

Among his victims in the European competition, Benfica have suffered the most, conceding nine goals from the striker. Red Star Belgrade are second with seven goals, whilst Real Madrid and Salzburg have conceded six.

For his part, the experienced striker has scored five times against Olympiacos, Ajax and Dinamo Zagreb. Arsenal and Barca themselves – against whom he scored whilst playing for Bayern – have conceded four goals at the hands of the Pole.

The list of victims continues with Viktoria Plzen, Dynamo Kyiv, Olympique Marseille, PSV, Chelsea and AEK Athens – all conceding three. And bringing up the rear – with just one goal each – are 13 clubs: Malaga, Copenhagen, Juventus, PSG, Roma, Bayern Munich, Villarreal, Rostov, Royal Antwerp, Manchester City, Slavia Prague and Olympique Lyon.

Griezmann, Salah & Mbappe up there

Among the players who have scored against the most different teams in the Champions League, Antoine Griezmann, Mohamed Salah and Kylian Mbappe are still playing in Europe; interestingly, they have all reached the quarter-finals with their respective teams.

Griezmann has scored against 31 different teams in 35 matches, and although he has already scored against Barcelona, he could extend his record in a potential semi-final against Sporting Lisbon or Arsenal.

Mbappé has 27 victims to his name in 46 matches, although on his side of the bracket on the road to the final, he could only extend his record against PSG, against whom he has yet to find the net as he has never faced them in the competition since leaving the Parc des Princes side.

Mo Salah has also scored against 27 different teams, just like the Frenchman, although in just 42 matches, and could improve his record should he find the net against PSG in the quarter-finals.
